Car Maintenance Before A Road Trip
Before you hit the highway this summer, you’ll want to make sure your car is in the best possible shape so you know you’ll get where you want to go.
Here are some practical car maintenance tips from the experts:
Tread smartly. Check your tires for wear and tear—and don’t forget the spare. Also gauge tire pressure; under inflated tires reduce fuel economy and if you see uneven wear, it may mean you need to align your wheels.
See the light. Make sure your headlights, brake lights, turn signals and emergency lights are all in good working order. Your headlights should be kept clean as well. Dirty headlights can reduce visibility by 50 percent or more.
Be fluid. It’s a good time to check your fluid levels, including oil, brake, transmission, power steering and the windshield washer. If you see any signs of leakage, bring your car in for service.
Tighten your belt. It’s a good practice to survey your hoses and belts, and replace them if they’re loose, frayed or show excessive wear. This will ensure your electrical, A/C, power steering and cooling systems keep up with your road trip.
With a bit of maintenance and some valuable protections, you can look forward to a road trip vacation that’s both safe and carefree.
