How Can I Help Needy Students
How to donate to needy students and schools.
Want to Help Young Minds Thrive? Here Are 3 Ways You Can
As a parent in Illinois or Wisconsin, there’s perhaps nothing more gratifying than knowing your young scholars have access to the tools and education they need to grow and thrive. But, what about students who come from families less well-off and go to schools that are less well funded?
Perhaps you feel inclined to provide a little help. If so, we here at R Hobbs Insurance Agency put together this list of different ways you can give, including some organizations that may inspire you.
1. Donate Supplies
· Assistance League: Chapters participate in Operation School Bell, providing books, clothing, backpacks and other necessities to needy schoolchildren in scores of cities.
· Reading Rockets: Here’s a detailed list of programs you may want to support that offer free or low-cost children’s books. Plus, get advice on launching your own book drive.
· Volunteers of America: Through Operation Backpack, this organization pays for backpacks loaded with school supplies, finances after-school and mentoring programs, and provides other vital services.
2. Donate Time and Talent
· Local school districts and libraries: Give them a call. They’ll likely have an existing program in which you can participate or they may invite you to help launch a new project.
· VolunteerMatch: This online clearinghouse brings together volunteers and nonprofits nationwide.
3. Donate to a Classroom
· DonorsChoose.org: Public school teachers across the country turn to this innovative charity to create and post classroom project requests. You can give any amount to any project you choose.
· AdoptAClassroom.org: This site also allows you to donate to registered classrooms nationwide.
Together, we can all make a difference.
