Reducing Risk When You Golf
SAFE PLAY ON THE FAIRWAY
Lightning
Watch your cell. A weather app can alert you in advance of lightning on the way.
Listen for thunder. If you hear it, stop playing and look for safety. The best place is a sturdy building, or hard-topped metal vehicle with the windows closed.
Hands off your clubs. The metal on golf carts and clubs can conduct lightning. So too can metal fences, railings, and bikes.
Your golf cart
Just go slow. Its light weight makes a golf cart prone to flipping. So, go easy on the turns. Also reduce speed on inclines, declines, and intersections.
Look behind first. Before backing up, check behind you. And always yield to pedestrians.
Avoid overload. Only carry passengers for whom there are seats.
And while you’re mulling over how to improve your game, improve your protection, too. You can inexpensively add extra insurance to your property policy to cover physical loss to a motorized cart, as well as for damage to your golf clubs or if they are lost.
